Tenoumer (impact melt breccia)

About 2.5 mio. years ago a giant meteorite hit the Earth and formed a crater of 1.9 km width in Mauretania. The crater is in a remote part of Sahara in central Mauretania, some 250 km from the nearest mapped road! Impact rocks from this crater are hard to obtain.

This slice of impact melt breccia, sampled SE outside the crater.
